The Bull and Bear InnThe Bull and Bear Inn, located on Birger Jarlsgatan, is part of a group of pubs across Sweden.  Styled as an English pub with dark wood being a feature throughout and wooden beams across the ceiling.  There is a small seating area outside the front with an awning and heat lamps making it a comfortable spot for people watching on the busy street.

Walking inside it is quite striking and impressive.  It is well designed and beautifully finished.  The staff are also one of the first things you can’t help but notice.  The uniform consists of a bright red waistcoat over a white shirt and a kilt paired with the traditional socks that go with it.  (Although this might seem contradictory to the English theme of the place, it was pointed out by a member of staff that the kilt was originally designed and worn by an English man.)

The drinks are expensive and there is no happy hour, but it is a tourist trap (as described by the staff), so the pricing is to be expected.  As it does have a good atmosphere you may find the prices more reasonable as you will be sipping your cold beer in good surroundings.  The food is pretty tasty and is served in more of a gastro pub style.  There is free WiFi here, which is always a bonus, but this is provided by the Espresso House next door.

There is a good selection of food and drink to choose from with there being no real theme to the menu.  That means there is something for everyone, right?  An added bonus to this place is they offer various tastings.  A great idea for any beer or whiskey lovers!  Details and pricing for this can be seen on their website but it does seem pretty reasonable to me.

The staff are friendly and welcoming.  This includes the two charming doormen who were happy to chat away with anyone.   The service is efficient and it seems like a well-oiled machine.  The location is central and very close to the T-Bana and bus stops.  This is also a late-night pub, open until 3am every day!

I do like this place and recommend a visit.  Yes, it is expensive but it has so many winning factors it is worth staying for at least one drink or for a decent pub meal.

  1. Stopped in here one afternoon when we were in Stockholm this September looking for a beer and something to snack on. The beer was good and the garlic/cheese bread was the best I have ever had anywhere.

  2. Hi! Someone in my Facebook group shared this website with us so I came to
give it a look. Great blog and fantastic style and design.
